Affective Integration

“Biodanza is a system of affective integration, organic renovation and re-learning of the orginal life functions based on vivencias induced by dance, music, singing and situations of encounter in a group.”
Rolando defined Affective Integration Poetically as . . .
* Re-establishing the lost unity between humanity and nature.
Scientifically and psychologically as . . .
* “The core integrator is, according to our approach, affectivity, which exerts its influence on the limbic-hyphothalamic regulatory centres, which in turn influences the instincts, vivencias and emotions.”
How we respond and react to people and situations depends very much on what we have learned about other people – do they represent a threat, a possibility, safety, danger etc. And this learning starts before we can even speak, possibly even before we are born and it is at a below conscious level, it is experienced viscerally in our body, it involves parts of our nervous system that are automatic or automated.
It also depends on the overall state of our system – are we sleeping well, eating well, laughing, doing things we enjoy etc. These things have a significant impact on our responses as does our capacity to come back to homeostasis or ‘balance’ when we have had a disturbance of some kind.
Due to the neuroplasiticity in our nervous systems we are literally able to learn more ways and alternatives to what we have learned and the ways we have developed so far. This process is what the Biodanza definition means by Affective Integration. Integration in a system means more links making up the whole, which means learning, which often means more ways and possibilities which we can discover through new or different experiences. This is what vivencias offer us in Biodanza.
In order for us to have new experiences we need trust and what builds trust is knowing that we can have differences and still be in relationship.
Looking forward to dancing more possibilities with you later.
